Consumer Terms of Service
Last updated June 9, 2026
Joyn helps you make plans and message with small groups of friends. These Consumer Terms of Service (the terms) are an agreement between you and Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, a sole proprietorship (enkeltpersonforetak) registered in Norway (Joyn, we, us, or our), and they govern your use of the Joyn iOS app and our companion website at joynevents.com.
By creating an account or using Joyn, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Joyn.
Joyn is currently in closed testing and is still being built, so some things may change. We explain what that means for you below. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your information and is part of your agreement with us.
1. Who we are
Joyn is operated by Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, a sole proprietorship registered in Norway (organisation number 926 450 042), located at Husebyskogen 74, 1570 Dilling, Norway. You can reach us at support@joynevents.com.
When we say the service, we mean the Joyn iOS app, the website at joynevents.com, and the features we offer through them.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 13 years old to use Joyn. If the laws where you live set a higher age of digital consent, you must meet that higher age.
By using Joyn, you confirm that you meet the minimum age, that you are able to enter into a binding agreement, and that you are not barred from using the service under any applicable law.
If you are using Joyn on behalf of someone else, or you let someone else use your account, you are responsible for making sure they follow these terms.
3. The service
Joyn is a social-plans and group-messaging app for small groups of friends. Depending on the feature, you can:
- Send group messages, including text, images, GIFs and stickers (searched through Klipy), reactions, mentions, and replies, with read receipts.
- Create activities and events, as well as lightweight hangouts, including recurring occurrences.
- Collect RSVPs, run time-polls, and vote on when to meet.
- Share discussion posts, comments, and photos, and react to them.
- Add friends, send and accept friend requests, and block or report other people.
- Search for places using Apple MapKit.
- Receive push notifications.
- Optionally sync activities with your calendar in both directions.
- Optionally use AI features, as described below.
Pre-release and beta
Joyn is in closed testing. This means the service is still under active development, may contain bugs, may be unavailable from time to time, and may change significantly. We may add, change, or remove features at any time, and the service is provided on an as is and as available basis (see the disclaimers below).
Free of charge
Joyn is currently free to use on iOS. We may introduce paid features in the future, but if we do, we will tell you in advance and you will not be charged for a paid feature without your agreement.
4. Your account and security
To use Joyn you need an account. You can sign up with an email address and password, or use Sign in with Apple. You can also turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) using a time-based one-time password (TOTP) app for extra protection.
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your credentials secure. In particular, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information when you sign up and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password and any MFA codes confidential.
- Not share your account or let others use it.
- Tell us promptly at support@joynevents.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You are responsible for activity that happens under your account, except to the extent it results from our failure to meet our own obligations.
5. Acceptable use and community rules
Joyn is meant for staying in touch and making plans with people you know. To keep it safe for everyone, you agree not to:
- Harass, bully, threaten, or abuse anyone.
- Post or share content that is illegal, hateful, or that exploits or endangers others.
- Send spam or unwanted bulk messages.
- Infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
- Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent who you are.
- Attempt to break, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems.
- Use the service to violate any applicable law or regulation.
You can block people you do not want to interact with, and you can report content or behavior that breaks these rules. We review reports and may act on them, but we cannot promise a specific outcome.
If you break these rules or the law, we may remove content and suspend or terminate your account, as described in the suspension and termination section below.
6. Your content and the license you grant
Joyn lets you create and share content, including messages, activities, posts, comments, photos, and profile information (your content). As between you and us, you own your content.
To operate Joyn, we need your permission to handle your content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, and display your content solely to operate and provide the service to the people you share it with. For example, we need this license to deliver your messages to the friends in your conversation, show your posts to the people invited to an activity, and store your photos so they sync across your devices. This license lasts only as long as we need it to provide the service, and it ends when you delete your content or your account, except where the content has already been shared with others or where we must keep it to meet a legal obligation.
You are responsible for your content. By sharing content on Joyn, you confirm that you have the rights to share it and that doing so does not break these terms or the law.
7. AI features
Joyn offers optional AI features. These include per-conversation AI agents (up to 5 in a single conversation) and an app-wide AI assistant we call copilot. The copilot can take actions that you direct it to take, such as sending a message, creating an activity, or voting in a poll.
How the AI works
Joyn's AI features are powered by OpenAI. When you use them, relevant content from your request is processed by OpenAI to generate a response. To personalize responses, Joyn may store AI memories, which you can review and manage yourself.
A monthly per-user usage budget applies to AI features. Once you reach your budget, AI features may be limited until the budget resets.
AI outputs and your responsibility
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before you rely on it or act on it, and for any actions the copilot takes at your direction. Always check that a message, activity, vote, or other action is what you intended.
AI output is not professional advice. Do not rely on it for legal, medical, financial, or other professional matters, and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.
8. Messaging and notifications
Joyn is a messaging service, so sending and receiving messages is a core part of how it works. When you message other people, they can see and keep the content you send, and features like read receipts may show when your messages have been seen.
Joyn sends push notifications, for example about new messages, activity updates, RSVPs, and reminders. You can manage notification permissions in your device settings. We may also send you service and account emails (for example to verify your email or help you reset your password); these are delivered through Resend.
9. Third-party services and the Apple App Store
Joyn relies on third-party services to operate. These include:
- Supabase for hosting, authentication, database, storage, realtime updates, and backend functions.
- OpenAI for AI features.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple, push notifications, and distribution through the App Store.
- Klipy for GIF and sticker search.
- Resend for transactional and authentication email.
These providers have their own terms and privacy practices, and your use of their services may be subject to them. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
Apple App Store terms
Joyn is distributed through the Apple App Store, and your use of the app is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the EULA), except where these terms are more restrictive, in which case these terms apply.
You acknowledge that:
- These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not a party to these terms.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content, and for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection or similar law, to the extent these terms and applicable law require.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and Apple has the right to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
10. Intellectual property
The service itself, including the Joyn name, the app, the website, our software, and our designs, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not give you any rights in the service except the limited right to use it as allowed here.
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the service except as expressly permitted.
Your rights in your own content are described in the section on your content above.
11. Privacy
We care about your privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with (including the third-party services listed above), and the choices and rights you have. By using Joyn, you agree to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Suspension, termination, and account deletion
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, then Security, then Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile and cascades to your content. If you co-host an activity with someone else, ownership of that activity transfers to another host so it is not lost for the rest of the group.
Suspension and termination by us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the service, and remove content, if you break these terms or the law, if we need to protect the service or other people, or if we are required to do so. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will give you notice.
Either you or we may end this agreement at any time. When your account is terminated, your right to use the service stops. Some parts of these terms by their nature continue to apply after termination, including the sections on your content license that is needed to provide the service, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law and disputes.
13. Disclaimers
Joyn is in closed testing and is provided on an as is and as available basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that it will meet your requirements, and we do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any content, including AI output. You use the service at your own discretion and risk.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us to use the service in the 12 months before the claim (which, while Joyn is free, is zero) or EUR 100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms or the law. We will let you know about any such claim and may participate in its defense.
16. Changes to the service and these terms
Because Joyn is still being built, we may change, add, or remove features, and we may change these terms from time to time. When we make a material change to these terms, we will update the date at the top and let you know through the app, by email, or by other reasonable means before the change takes effect.
If you keep using Joyn after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree to a change, you should stop using the service and may delete your account.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Any dispute relating to these terms or the service will be resolved in the Norwegian courts, and you and we agree to that venue, except where mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere, such as in the courts of the country where you live.
Nothing here affects any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws in your country.
18. How to contact us
If you have questions about these terms, you can reach us at support@joynevents.com, or by mail at Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, Husebyskogen 74, 1570 Dilling, Norway.
