These Consumer Terms of Service (the terms) are an agreement between you and Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, the Norwegian sole proprietorship that operates Joyn (Joyn, we, us, or our). They govern your use of the Joyn iOS app and joynevents.com.
By creating an account or using Joyn, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Joyn. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
Terms at a glance
- Joyn is an activity coordination and messaging service in closed testing. It is currently free and may change as we develop it.
- Keep your account secure, respect other people, and do not misuse the service.
- You own the content you create. You give us only the permission needed to operate Joyn and show that content to the people you choose.
- AI output can be wrong. Review it before relying on it or confirming an action.
- You can delete your account at any time. These terms do not take away consumer rights that the law says cannot be waived.
1. About Joyn
Joyn helps friends coordinate activities and stay in touch through the iOS app and companion website. When these terms refer to the service, they mean the app, the website, and the Joyn features available through them.
Joyn is operated by Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, a sole proprietorship registered in Norway (organisation number 926 450 042), at Husebyskogen 74, 1570 Dilling, Norway. You can contact us at support@joynevents.com.
Joyn is currently in closed testing and may require an invitation or access through Apple's distribution channels. The service is free for now. If we introduce paid features, we will show the price and any additional terms before you agree to pay.
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 13 to use Joyn. If the law where you live requires a higher age to use the service or agree to the use of personal data, you must meet that age. You must also be legally able to agree to these terms. If you cannot agree on your own, a parent or legal guardian must agree for you.
You can sign in with Apple or an email code where those options are available. You are responsible for keeping your account and sign-in details secure. You agree to:
- Provide accurate account information and keep it reasonably current.
- Keep sign-in links, codes, and Apple ID credentials confidential.
- Not share your account or let someone else use it.
- Email support@joynevents.com promptly if you believe someone accessed your account without permission.
You are responsible for activity under your account unless it results from our failure to meet our obligations.
3. Using the service
We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, and non-transferable right to use Joyn for personal, non-commercial purposes while this agreement remains in effect.
Joyn's name, app, website, software, and designs belong to us or our licensors. These terms do not transfer ownership to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the service except where these terms or applicable law allow it.
Joyn includes activity coordination, messaging, social, media, notification, calendar, place search, safety, and AI features. Features can differ between the iOS app and website, and some may be limited during testing.
The service may contain bugs, experience interruptions, or change as we develop it. Section 10 explains how we handle significant changes.
4. Community rules and enforcement
Joyn is for coordinating activities and staying in touch with other people. You must not:
- Harass, bully, threaten, exploit, endanger, or abuse anyone.
- Share content that is illegal, hateful, or violates another person's rights, including privacy or intellectual-property rights.
- Send spam or unwanted bulk messages.
- Impersonate someone or misrepresent who you are.
- Break, disrupt, overload, scrape, or gain unauthorised access to Joyn or its systems.
- Reverse engineer or copy the service except where applicable law expressly allows it.
- Use Joyn to break the law or help someone else do so.
You can block or report people who break these rules. We use automated tools and human review to assess reports. Clear and serious violations may be hidden automatically; unclear or higher-stakes reports go to a person. You can ask us to review an automated decision. Our Privacy Policy explains how report data is processed.
We may remove content or restrict an account when reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, comply with law, or protect Joyn or other people. Section 9 explains notice and appeal.
5. Your content
You own the messages, media, activity details, posts, comments, tasks, profile information, and other content you create in Joyn. You are responsible for that content and must have the right to share it.
You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, and display your content only as needed to operate Joyn and provide it to the people you share it with. This permission does not let us sell your content or use it for advertising.
The licence ends when the content is no longer needed to provide the service. When you delete content, Joyn removes it from the product, removes its payload from the active database, and schedules associated private files for permanent deletion; a content-free message marker or shared activity or conversation container may remain where needed to preserve other participants' own content and conversation order. We may retain only limited records when necessary for law, a live legal claim, or serious abuse prevention. Deletion and retention are explained in the Privacy Policy.
People who receive your content may save or share it outside Joyn. Consider the audience before you post or send something.
6. AI features
Joyn includes private assistant help, assistants in group conversations, and an assistant-written Home brief. AI features can use relevant Joyn context to answer questions, prepare drafts, and propose actions for review. Our Privacy Policy explains when content is sent to OpenAI and what context may be included.
A conversation assistant can post a reply that other conversation members can see. Another participant's private assistant may use messages that participant is allowed to read. The Home brief may summarize recent activity changes and unread conversation activity when Home refreshes.
Joyn may store personal AI memories for your private assistant and shared notes for a conversation assistant. The Privacy Policy explains who can see them and how to remove them. Usage limits may temporarily restrict AI features.
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Review output and any proposed action before relying on or confirming it. A message, activity change, RSVP, booking request, or other action is not complete until Joyn shows that it was completed.
When restaurant-booking support is available, Joyn can send a request after you confirm it. Joyn does not see live availability or guarantee that the venue accepts the booking.
AI output is not legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Use a qualified professional when you need that kind of help.
7. Third-party services and Apple
Some Joyn features depend on services provided by Apple and other companies. Their own terms may apply when you use those services. We are responsible for Joyn, but not for third-party services outside our control. The Privacy Policy identifies the providers that process personal data for Joyn.
Apple App Store
If you received Joyn through the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple does not provide maintenance or support for Joyn.
We, not Apple, are responsible for Joyn and for addressing claims about the app to the extent required by these terms and applicable law. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
8. Privacy and communications
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data Joyn uses, why, who receives it, how long it is kept, and your choices.
People in a conversation can see and may keep the messages you send. Depending on the conversation and settings, read status can show when a message was seen.
Joyn may send push notifications and service or account emails. You can change push permission in iOS Settings and notification categories in Joyn. Some account messages, such as sign-in codes or important service notices, are necessary to operate your account.
9. Account deletion, suspension, and termination
Delete your account
You can end this agreement at any time by deleting your account in the iOS app under Profile → Edit profile → Delete account. Account deletion is free and takes effect when the deletion flow completes.
The account-deletion flow removes and verifies Joyn-managed private files associated with your account before deleting the account, messages, and user-only data. Shared conversation containers remain for other participants, but your account and messages are removed. If you own an activity with a co-host, Joyn transfers ownership to the longest-standing co-host so the activity can continue; an activity with no other host is deleted. Narrow legal, live-claim, serious-safety, provider-backup, and copies-outside-Joyn limits are explained in the Privacy Policy.
Action by Joyn
We may remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or terminate access if we reasonably believe you seriously or repeatedly broke these terms or the law, or when action is needed to protect people, Joyn, or the service. We may also act when required by law. We will make the action proportionate to the issue where possible.
When reasonable and lawful, we will tell you about the action and why, and provide a way to ask for review. We may delay or withhold notice where it would create a safety risk, compromise an investigation, or break the law.
When this agreement ends, your right to use Joyn stops. Terms that must continue by their nature still apply, including content permissions needed for retained shared content, intellectual-property rights, liability limits, and dispute terms.
10. Changes to Joyn or these terms
We may add, change, or remove features as we develop Joyn, respond to security or safety needs, comply with law, or adapt to technical or product changes. If a change materially reduces the core service, we will give reasonable advance notice where possible. You can delete your account at any time.
We may update these terms for the same reasons. For a material change, we will update the date at the top and notify you through Joyn, by email, or by another reasonable method before it takes effect. If the law requires your consent, we will ask for it.
If you do not agree to updated terms, you can stop using Joyn and delete your account before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means the updated terms apply, except where the law requires a different form of agreement.
11. Service expectations and liability
Joyn is in closed testing. We do not promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or meet every need. Content from other users, AI output, venues, and third-party services may be inaccurate or unavailable.
Nothing in these terms excludes our obligation to provide the service with the care required by law or limits consumer rights that cannot be waived. Nothing excludes or limits liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot legally be limited.
Subject to those protections and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you agreed to these terms or that result from circumstances outside our reasonable control. Our total liability for claims relating to Joyn will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or EUR 100.
12. Governing law and disputes
Norwegian law governs these terms. This choice does not take away mandatory consumer protections provided by the law where you live.
Please contact support@joynevents.com first so we can try to resolve a dispute. If we cannot resolve it, you may seek mediation through the Norwegian Consumer Authority or use another recognised consumer dispute body. The Norwegian Consumer Council explains where to complain.
You or we may bring a claim in the Norwegian courts, except where mandatory law lets you bring it elsewhere, including in the courts where you live.
